To put it mildly, I&#8217;m not a fan of Bresson (I only have one more of his titles left to review &#8212; not that I&#8217;m counting), so I wouldn&#8217;t have liked this movie anyway; but I don&#8217;t quite see the appeal of the story itself: a pawnbroker lusts after a beautiful young woman without much money, who he believes he can rescue: <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Gentle-Woman-Sanda.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Gentle-Woman-Sanda-1024x568.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-98571\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Gentle-Woman-Sanda-1024x568.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Gentle-Woman-Sanda-300x166.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Gentle-Woman-Sanda-128x71.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Gentle-Woman-Sanda-768x426.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Gentle-Woman-Sanda-487x270.png 487w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Gentle-Woman-Sanda-1038x576.png 1038w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Gentle-Woman-Sanda.png 1301w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; and then is surprised when she&#8217;s not too pleased with his overbearing, objectifying approach to her. Maybe this is a common challenge for some men (&#8220;Why isn&#8217;t my wife happy? I give her everything she wants and needs&#8230;&#8221;) but it&#8217;s crystal clear that these individuals don&#8217;t actually relate to one another in any way except sexually. He&#8217;s penny-pinching, she&#8217;s inclined to generosity; he likes jazz, she likes classical music; she looks perpetually miserable, he looks perpetually suspicious and sour. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Femme-Douce-Suspicious.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Femme-Douce-Suspicious-1024x569.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"356\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-98572\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Femme-Douce-Suspicious-1024x569.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Femme-Douce-Suspicious-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Femme-Douce-Suspicious-128x71.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Femme-Douce-Suspicious-768x427.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Femme-Douce-Suspicious-486x270.png 486w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Femme-Douce-Suspicious-1038x576.png 1038w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Femme-Douce-Suspicious.png 1288w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What could go wrong?
