Although Jancs\u00f3 publicly denied it, the film was clearly an allegory for the aftermath of the more recent <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hungarian_Revolution_of_1956\">failed Hungarian revolution of 1956 against Soviet Russia<\/a>. While it&#8217;s praised by many as one of the best Hungarian films, there is little for viewers to hold onto narratively-speaking, given that we quickly see what a hopeless situation these prisoners are in. J\u00e1nos G\u00f6rbe&#8217;s J\u00e1nos Gajdar is the first recognizable protagonist &#8212; a pathetic man willing to sell out his fellow prisoners for his own freedom: <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Round-Up-Gorbe.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Round-Up-Gorbe-1024x420.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"263\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-96171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Round-Up-Gorbe-1024x420.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Round-Up-Gorbe-300x123.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Round-Up-Gorbe-128x53.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Round-Up-Gorbe-768x315.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Round-Up-Gorbe-604x248.png 604w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Round-Up-Gorbe.png 1292w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; but will his efforts succeed? And if so, then what? There are really no good solutions. Eventually we watch another pair of men in a similarly no-win situation, being forced to identify an infamous outlaw named Sandor &#8212; will they?
