While Brando&#8217;s heavily improvised, arguably &#8220;foppish&#8221; performance as Fletcher Christian tends to be polarizing, I happen to be a fan: <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/vlcsnap-2023-12-26-23h42m31s421.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/vlcsnap-2023-12-26-23h42m31s421.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"368\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-94592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/vlcsnap-2023-12-26-23h42m31s421.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/vlcsnap-2023-12-26-23h42m31s421-300x108.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/vlcsnap-2023-12-26-23h42m31s421-128x46.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/vlcsnap-2023-12-26-23h42m31s421-768x276.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/vlcsnap-2023-12-26-23h42m31s421-604x217.png 604w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; and was reminded, for better or for worse, that I&#8217;m a film lover who can fairly easily dissociate movies (the end product) from their makers and constituents. To that end, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0056264\/trivia\/?item=tr0613101&#038;ref_=ext_shr_lnk\">Brando&#8217;s childish behavior during the filming of this movie<\/a> (see also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0056264\/trivia\/?item=tr2607121&#038;ref_=ext_shr_lnk\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0056264\/trivia\/?item=tr2448305&#038;ref_=ext_shr_lnk\">here<\/a>) was intolerable enough to essentially demote him from Hollywood&#8217;s elite &#8212; until his resurgence with <em>The Godfather<\/em>. (So it goes with divas of all genders.) What does it mean to go against the orders of the person in charge of everyone&#8217;s livelihood out on the open sea? What constitutes torture, versus &#8220;merely&#8221; a heavy hand?
