perhaps best known for helming cult favorite <a href=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=2889\"><em>King of Hearts<\/em> (1966)<\/a> &#8212; directed this high-spirited historical adventure flick, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1964\/07\/22\/archives\/screen-new-art-house-opens-with-cartouchethe-lincoln-presents.html\">described by the <em>New York Times<\/em> reviewer<\/a> as offering up &#8220;colorful, illustrating legendary footnotes to French history that should keep action fans, romantics and comedy connoisseurs happy even if it confuses the historians.&#8221;
