He refers to it as &#8220;the sweetest road movie to come down the pike,&#8221; noting that Carney &#8220;gave a fine performance, revealing unsuspected dramatic skills and proving that he could command our attention on the big screen as a leading man just as surely as when he charmed us as Ed Norton on the small screen&#8217;s <em>The Honeymooners<\/em>.&#8221; However, &#8220;in hindsight [Carney&#8217;s Oscar] victory is of little satisfaction for movie fans because with the exception of <a href=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=4361\"><em>The Late Show<\/em><\/a>, opposite Lily Tomlin, Carney&#8217;s later contributions to movies were negligible&#8221; and &#8220;he remains a television star.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Harry-and-Tonto-Carney-Elderly-Home.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Harry-and-Tonto-Carney-Elderly-Home-1024x553.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"346\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-91953\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Harry-and-Tonto-Carney-Elderly-Home-1024x553.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Harry-and-Tonto-Carney-Elderly-Home-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Harry-and-Tonto-Carney-Elderly-Home-128x69.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Harry-and-Tonto-Carney-Elderly-Home-768x414.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Harry-and-Tonto-Carney-Elderly-Home-500x270.png 500w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Harry-and-Tonto-Carney-Elderly-Home.png 1297w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I would agree &#8212; but meanwhile, this does remain a surprisingly affecting slice-of-life from the mid-1970s, showcasing numerous cities and roadscapes across the nation, and always authentically holding our attention. Harry very briefly visits his daughter (Burstyn) in Chicago, but their relationship clearly has some tensions given that she refers to him by his name (rather than Dad) and there is no consideration of him staying long. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Harry-and-Tonto-Chicago.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
