With so much extensive location shooting, it&#8217;s easy to see how a film like this would be exhausting and fraught with challenges. Characteristically, Mackendrick&#8217;s understanding was altogether darker: he saw it as &#8220;the inward odyssey of a deeply disturbed child, who destroys everybody he comes up against&#8221;. This one remains worth a look. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> More explicitly suggestive scenes between the Syrian peddler and Sammy were excised; according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0056886\/trivia?item=tr1136327\">IMDb&#8217;s Trivia<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p> &#8230; the Syrian, who comes across Sammy laying on a sand dune in the middle of the Egyptian desert, is sexually attracted to Sammy and was shown lusting after him and trying to have his way with him. However, two small parts of the supposedly cut scenes did make it to the final release print.
