&#8212; though &#8220;the first to get wide-spread circulation in America&#8221; &#8212; Peary points out the theme of &#8220;chance and probability&#8221; that runs through the entire screenplay, beginning with Trintignant running &#8220;into a Marxist friend&#8230; sexual choices to be &#8220;silly&#8221;. Peary further asserts that the moment when &#8220;Fabian&#8217;s daughter (Marie Becker) climbs out of bed just to see the lights on the Christmas tree&#8221; is &#8220;a simple, sweet, and honest gesture that makes us see how trivial the adult discourse is&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/My-Night-at-Mauds-Tree.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/My-Night-at-Mauds-Tree.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"999\" height=\"729\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-87903\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/My-Night-at-Mauds-Tree.png 999w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/My-Night-at-Mauds-Tree-300x219.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/My-Night-at-Mauds-Tree-128x93.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/My-Night-at-Mauds-Tree-768x560.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/My-Night-at-Mauds-Tree-370x270.png 370w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 999px) 100vw, 999px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; but I also disagree with this latter point; the &#8220;adult discourse&#8221; (involving &#8220;ultra-sophisticated&#8230; conversations about Pascal, probability and religion&#8221;) may be occasionally abstruse, but is far from trivial (or irrelevant).
