It was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1962\/04\/12\/archives\/the-screen-all-fall-down-inges-version-of-herlihy-novelbeatty-and.html\">panned by Bosley Crowther upon release<\/a>, who referred to it as burdened by a &#8220;tasteless plot&#8221; that is only &#8220;partly relieved by scenic color photography and a capable cast&#8221;, and moving &#8220;at the pace of a hearse&#8221;.
