While the original storyline takes place in just one room (the manor kitchen) with only three characters, Sj\u00f6berg found numerous creative ways to open up the action and add strongly cinematic touches to the proceedings. How things evolve may come as a surprise to those not familiar with the play, and viewers should be prepared for some pretty intense sequences. (What else would one expect from Scandinavian cinema?)
