The original movie title was retained despite the location being shifted far away from the Pacific (!), perhaps because the primary focus is still on individuals (Japanese) from the Pacific arena. To that end, unfortunate racist stereotypes abound, with one character in particular &#8212; hipster <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nisei\">Nisei<\/a> Joe Totsuiko, with coke bottle glasses &#8212; mouthing line after line of intentionally &#8220;I&#8217;M REALLY AMERICAN&#8221; dialogue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Across-the-Pacific-Yung2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Across-the-Pacific-Yung2-1024x743.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"464\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-74864\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Across-the-Pacific-Yung2-1024x743.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Across-the-Pacific-Yung2-300x218.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Across-the-Pacific-Yung2-128x93.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Across-the-Pacific-Yung2-768x557.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Across-the-Pacific-Yung2-372x270.png 372w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Across-the-Pacific-Yung2.png 1371w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>His first full sentence is, &#8220;I&#8217;m sure glad there&#8217;s someone around that speaks my language,&#8221; followed later by jargon-filled comments like these:  <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m rooming with a dope.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;He&#8217;s got his lip buttoned up for good, as far as I can figure out.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Say, I wonder if those Panamanian mamas are all they&#8217;re cracked up to be.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Take me for instance, kid. I&#8217;m a live wire.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Anybody wanna play shuffleboard?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Boy, let me at them pasteboards.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s impossible not to guess <em>something<\/em> is up with this awkwardly speaking dude.
