Hunter quickly becomes endearing as the 1\/8th-Cherokee adoptee who accepts that Wayne refuses to fully acknowledge his humanity, yet is willing to spend years &#8212; and risk his life &#8212; rescuing his kidnapped sister. While I&#8217;m not a fan of Ford&#8217;s characteristic humor &#8212; here primarily embodied by Miles&#8217; oafish suitor (Ken Curtis) but also somewhat in the addle-brained character &#8220;Mose&#8221; (Hank Worden), who helps bring The Search to a close: <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Searchers-Mose.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Searchers-Mose-1024x562.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"351\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-72030\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Searchers-Mose-1024x562.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Searchers-Mose-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Searchers-Mose-128x70.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Searchers-Mose-768x421.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Searchers-Mose-1536x843.png 1536w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Searchers-Mose-492x270.png 492w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Searchers-Mose.png 1843w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; I can understand the desire for a bit of levity in the midst of such darkness. Thank goodness Ford &#8212; via Frank Nugent&#8217;s adaptation of Alan Le May&#8217;s novel &#8212; allows us a relatively happy (if inevitably bittersweet) ending. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Redeeming
