Meanwhile, Stevens&#8217; grieving but determined father (Kirk Douglas) enlists the help of his girlfriend, a Paragon nurse (Carrie Snodgress), in helping Irving escape from the institute to help find his son &#8212; but what cost will this bring to all involved?\n<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p>\n<strong>Genres, Themes, Actors, and Directors:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Amy Irving Films<\/li>\n<li>Brian De Palma Films<\/li>\n<li>Father and Child<\/li>\n<li>Horror Films<\/li>\n<li>John Cassavetes Films<\/li>\n<li>Kirk Douglas Films<\/li>\n<li>Supernatural Powers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Response to Peary\u2019s Review: <\/strong><br \/>\nPeary writes that this &#8220;stupid, complicated, unforgivably bloody Brian De Palma film, scripted by John Farris (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Fury_(Farris_novel)\">from his novel<\/a>)&#8221; has &#8220;too many characters, the acting is mostly wretched, the dialogue&#8217;s a joke, the picture has no ending&#8230; and &#8212; except for a couple of times when the background around Irving impressively changes to reveal what she&#8217;s thinking: <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Cinematography3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Cinematography3-1024x557.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"348\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-70125\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Cinematography3-1024x557.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Cinematography3-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Cinematography3-128x70.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Cinematography3-768x418.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Cinematography3-497x270.png 497w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Cinematography3.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8212; the direction is terrible.&#8221; He argues that De Palma &#8220;uses slow motion too often, and has a tendency to circle his camera around tables where characters have conversations, calling attention to rather than disguising the banality of the chatter&#8221;: <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Ice-Cream.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Ice-Cream-1024x557.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"348\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-70140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Ice-Cream-1024x557.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Ice-Cream-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Ice-Cream-128x70.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Ice-Cream-768x418.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Ice-Cream-497x270.png 497w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Ice-Cream.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8212; but &#8220;of course, the most objectionable thing about this film is the extreme violence (with emphasis on blood spattering in all directions).&#8221; While I&#8217;m in agreement with Peary that this film is a disappointment on just about every count &#8212; it can&#8217;t begin to compare with De Palma&#8217;s previous <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=32268\">film about another girl with telekinetic powers<\/a> &#8212; it seems to me that fans of this type of fare may not be so disturbed by the violence and bloodshed. <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m most distressed by how much obvious care went into production values and special effects for a film that simply doesn&#8217;t lead anywhere interesting. The opening sequence on an Israeli beach is action-packed but insufficiently explained:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Opening.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Opening-1024x557.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"348\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-70141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Opening-1024x557.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Opening-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Opening-128x70.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Opening-768x418.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Opening-497x270.png 497w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Opening.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; simply positing numerous faceless &#8220;Arabs&#8221; as rampantly murderous killers. Next, 61-year-old Douglas &#8212; cast simply to bring a big name to the flick &#8212; gets to show off his strength and agility in a series of cat-and-mouse scenes (including a harrowing car chase):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Car-Chase.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Car-Chase-1024x557.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"348\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-70143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Car-Chase-1024x557.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Car-Chase-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Car-Chase-128x70.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Car-Chase-768x418.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Car-Chase-497x270.png 497w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Car-Chase.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; that are simply silly and don&#8217;t add anything to the storyline. Irving is sympathetic and tries her best in a role that lets her down:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Irving3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Irving3-1024x557.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"348\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-70136\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Irving3-1024x557.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Irving3-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Irving3-128x70.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Irving3-768x418.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Irving3-497x270.png 497w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Irving3.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; but Stevens is an utterly unlikable &#8220;protagonist&#8221; who we don&#8217;t especially feel driven to see rescued from his plight. Snodgress and Lewis&#8217;s roles as supportive sex partners (Snodgress to Douglas, Lewis to Stevens): <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Stevens-Lewis.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Stevens-Lewis-1024x557.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"348\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-70138\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Stevens-Lewis-1024x557.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Stevens-Lewis-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Stevens-Lewis-128x70.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Stevens-Lewis-768x418.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Stevens-Lewis-497x270.png 497w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Fury-Stevens-Lewis.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; are poorly written, and several other supporting characters simply disappear at a certain point.
