While Yancey fights against injustice and struggles with his latent wanderlust, Sabra tries to provide the best life possible for her son, Cimarron (played at various ages by Ted Eccles, James Halferty, and Buzz Martin).\n<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p>\n<strong>Genres, Themes, Actors, and Directors:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Anne Baxter Films<\/li>\n<li>Anthony Mann Films<\/li>\n<li>Glenn Ford Films<\/li>\n<li>Maria Schell Films<\/li>\n<li>Marital Problems<\/li>\n<li>Mercedes McCambridge Films<\/li>\n<li>Russ Tamblyn Films<\/li>\n<li>Settlers<\/li>\n<li>Westerns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Review: <\/strong><br \/>\nAnthony Mann&#8217;s remake of Edna Ferber&#8217;s epic novel suffers from the same problem as its <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=5343\">Oscar-winning predecessor<\/a> &#8212; there&#8217;s simply too much story here to tell in a &#8220;mere&#8221; 2 1\/2 hours. With that said, there <em>are<\/em> some notable improvements: Glenn Ford is a welcome (and far more realistic) alternative to hammy Richard Dix, and Maria Schell is equally fine as Ford&#8217;s adoring yet socially-conscious wife: <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Ford.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Ford-1024x437.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"273\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-67443\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Ford-1024x437.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Ford-300x128.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Ford-128x55.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Ford-768x328.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Ford-1536x655.png 1536w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Ford-604x258.png 604w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Ford.png 1817w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8212; a woman willing to make sacrifices for her pioneering husband, but only to a certain point. In addition, screenwriter Arnold Schulman does a nice job providing more of a realistic context for Yancey&#8217;s extended absences &#8212; indeed, both Yancey and Sabra are ultimately more three-dimensional characters this time around. Yet the story nonetheless suffers from an inability to keep us invested in the long-term outcome of their troubled marriage; Anne Baxter as rival love interest &#8220;Dixie Lee&#8221; fails to generate much interest:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Baxter.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Baxter-1024x440.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"275\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-67440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Baxter-1024x440.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Baxter-300x129.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Baxter-128x55.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Baxter-768x330.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Baxter-1536x659.png 1536w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Baxter-604x259.png 604w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/Cimarron-Baxter.png 1815w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; while Sabra&#8217;s compromised &#8220;triumph&#8221; at the end of the film is particularly unsatisfying.
