with musical numbers &#8212; was unfairly panned when released and praised when re-released in 1976 in its uncut version.&#8221; He argues that &#8220;if you can&#8217;t tolerate De Niro&#8217;s character because he&#8217;s abrasive, immature, and incorrigible and you feel that his treatment of the sweet, &#8216;perfect&#8217; she is the villain.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Hold the phone, Peary. Her success is to be celebrated, as is her <em>tolerance<\/em> of De Niro near the end (he&#8217;s still a jerk), regardless of her ultimate choice. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-York-New-York-Tolerance.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-York-New-York-Tolerance-1024x613.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"383\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-53951\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-York-New-York-Tolerance-1024x613.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-York-New-York-Tolerance-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-York-New-York-Tolerance-128x77.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-York-New-York-Tolerance-768x460.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-York-New-York-Tolerance-1536x919.png 1536w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-York-New-York-Tolerance-451x270.png 451w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/New-York-New-York-Tolerance.png 1713w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Peary writes that the &#8220;acting by the two leads is wonderful&#8221; and that &#8220;the tear-jerking scenes result from De Niro revealing his sensitivity&#8221;, but none of this matters given that we&#8217;re watching deeply unpleasant power plays for nearly three hours.
