However, this harsh assessment is unwarranted: while the earlier two films are more iconic, this one serves its purpose nicely, and is certainly well-made. Most engaging of all is Bergman&#8217;s performance: this was notably her first opportunity to play against her &#8220;nice girl&#8221; persona in Hollywood. (The same was true in reverse for Lana Turner, who was originally considered for Bergman&#8217;s part.) Bergman, naturally, brings warmth and depth to a character who could easily have been simply a victimized caricature; she&#8217;s mesmerizing every instant she&#8217;s on-screen. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr-Jekyll-Bergman2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr-Jekyll-Bergman2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-53916\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr-Jekyll-Bergman2.png 720w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr-Jekyll-Bergman2-300x225.png 300w, sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tracy &#8212; who resisted taking on this role out of deference for March&#8217;s Oscar-winning performance &#8212; isn&#8217;t awful, as some have claimed; his transformations are believable, even if the rationale for them is less well-developed here than elsewhere. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr-Jekyll-Tracy.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr-Jekyll-Tracy.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-53917\"
