Soon they discover that a bitter ex-cop (Ingvar Hirdwall) whose diabetic wife died under Nyman&#8217;s custody may be taking revenge.\n<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p>\n<strong>Genres, Themes, Actors, and Directors:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Corruption<\/li>\n<li>Murder Mystery<\/li>\n<li>Police<\/li>\n<li>Revenge<\/li>\n<li>Scandinavian Films<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Review: <\/strong><br \/>\nIn a 1962 treatise entitled <em>Vision in Swedish Film<\/em>, director Bo Widerberg notoriously spoke out against Ingmar Bergman&#8217;s dominance in Sweden&#8217;s cinematic landscape, noting the need for Swedish films which dealt with &#8220;earthier&#8221; concerns than those traditionally addressed by Bergman. This mystery thriller by Widerberg is, ironically, a bit of both &#8212; a decidedly action-filled film, but one grounded in a more serious exploration of corruption. For the most part, it&#8217;s an enjoyable, satisfying movie, one which takes us through Stockholm&#8217;s streets, and shows us &#8212; in its final climactic scenes &#8212; the city&#8217;s gorgeous rooftops. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/Man-on-the-Roof-Roofs.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/Man-on-the-Roof-Roofs-1024x604.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"378\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-64654\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/Man-on-the-Roof-Roofs-1024x604.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/Man-on-the-Roof-Roofs-300x177.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/Man-on-the-Roof-Roofs-128x76.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/Man-on-the-Roof-Roofs-768x453.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/Man-on-the-Roof-Roofs-1536x906.png 1536w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/Man-on-the-Roof-Roofs-458x270.png 458w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/Man-on-the-Roof-Roofs.png 1585w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, however, the screenplay is marred by a serious lack of focus: while Detective Beck is squarely posited as the central protagonist, by the end of the film we&#8217;re inexplicably following a different set of (younger) policemen altogether.
