One of the top PRC companies was another &#8220;PRC&#8221; &#8212; the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Producers_Releasing_Corporation\">Producers Releasing Corporation<\/a> &#8212; which was responsible for such cult titles as Edgar Ulmer&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=35780\"><em>Bluebeard<\/em> (1944)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=5888\"><em>Detour<\/em> (1945)<\/a>, as well as Douglas Sirk&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=4638\"><em>Hitler&#8217;s Madman<\/em> (1943)<\/a>. <em>Strangler of the Swamp<\/em> doesn&#8217;t live up to those three titles&#8217; modest fame, but remains a uniquely atmospheric outing in its own right. Nothing about this strongly allegorical morality tale rings realistic &#8212; starting from the fog-laden set representing a town somehow disconnected from all of mainstream society, and continuing with the sudden arrival of a beautiful young woman eager to spend her days ferrying passengers back and forth across the swamp &#8212; but we soon learn the story is really about supernatural repercussions visited upon a town covering up its dirty secrets. It&#8217;s worth a one-time look, simply to see what such studios were able to do with limited resources (and to check out Blake Edwards in an early acting role before he became much more famous as a director). <\/p>\n<p><strong>Redeeming Qualities and Moments: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Highly atmospheric cinematography<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Strangler-of-the-Swamp-Cinematography.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Strangler-of-the-Swamp-Cinematography.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35710\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Strangler-of-the-Swamp-Cinematography.png 720w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Strangler-of-the-Swamp-Cinematography-128x85.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Strangler-of-the-Swamp-Cinematography-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Must See? <\/strong><br \/>\nNo, but it&#8217;s worth a look simply as an example of a better-than-average PRC outing.
