While listening to her recount her story, he finds himself deeply smitten with her, and dedicated to proving her innocence &#8212; but is she worthy of his adoration and trust?\n<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p>\n<strong>Genres, Themes, Actors, and Directors:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Black Comedy<\/li>\n<li>Femmes Fatales<\/li>\n<li>Flashback Films<\/li>\n<li>Francois Truffaut Films<\/li>\n<li>French Films<\/li>\n<li>Prisoners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Review: <\/strong><br \/>\nCritical opinion seems fairly unanimous on this adaptation (by Francois Truffaut) of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Henry_Farrell\">Henry Farrell<\/a>&#8216;s 1967 novel, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/movies\/une-belle-fille-comme-moi\">Time Out&#8217;s reviewer<\/a> referring to it as &#8220;loud and crude&#8221;, and accurately naming it &#8220;Truffaut&#8217;s weakest movie, a black comedy which totally misfires&#8221;. Neither of the leads &#8212; either Dussollier&#8217;s hopelessly naive sociology student or Lafont&#8217;s calculating <em>femme fatale<\/em> &#8212; are anything close to likable, leaving us with nobody to root for and little interest in hearing Lafont relate her supposedly tragic background to Dussollier. Because it&#8217;s made clear to us from the beginning that Lafont is either lying and\/or enormously deceptive, there is little point to learning more about her travails; we know that Dussollier is a dope for getting roped in, and we can see that he has nowhere to go but down. It&#8217;s especially disappointing to see Lafont &#8212; so appealing in her debut as the put-upon Marie in <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=4765\"><em>A Very Curious Girl<\/em> (1969)<\/a> &#8212; reduced to playing a comical tramp here. Charles Denner &#8212; star of Chabrol&#8217;s <em>Bluebeard<\/em> (1963) and Truffaut&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=27588\"><em>The Man Who Loved Women<\/em> (1977)<\/a> &#8212; gives the only semi-dignified performance in the film, playing an exterminator smitten with (and prey to) Lafont&#8217;s dubious charms. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Redeeming Qualities and Moments: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Charles Denner as Arthur<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Such-a-Gorgeous-Kid-Denner.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Such-a-Gorgeous-Kid-Denner.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27761\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Such-a-Gorgeous-Kid-Denner.png 640w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Such-a-Gorgeous-Kid-Denner-128x96.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Such-a-Gorgeous-Kid-Denner-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Must See? <\/strong><br \/>\nNo; definitely feel free to skip this one.
