The storyline is often overly theatrical, and certain scenes (such as when the coal-miners sing impossibly beautiful ditties while walking to and from work) come across as heavy-handed &#8212; but Davis is such a nuanced and compelling actress that she consistently elevates the material, helping us remain invested and engaged throughout. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Davis6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Davis6-1024x746.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"466\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-68342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Davis6-1024x746.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Davis6-300x219.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Davis6-128x93.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Davis6-768x559.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Davis6-371x270.png 371w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Davis6.png 1421w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In his film debut, Dall &#8212; best known for his starring roles in Hitchcock&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=18528\"><em>Rope<\/em> (1948)<\/a> and Joseph Lewis&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=24946\"><em>Gun Crazy<\/em> (1949)<\/a> &#8212; received a Best Supporting Actor nomination, and does an impressive job portraying his character&#8217;s deep sense of conflict:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Dall5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Dall5-1024x736.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"460\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-68340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Dall5-1024x736.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Dall5-300x216.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Dall5-128x92.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Dall5-768x552.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Dall5-376x270.png 376w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Corn-is-Green-Dall5.png 1429w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to understand why this strapping young man would both appreciate and resent the attentions paid to him by Davis.
