Other than some refreshingly candid Pre-Code sadomasochism (with Naldi biting Valentino&#8217;s hand in an act of aggressive erotic pursuit), the cliched storyline is largely uninspired, and the bullfight scenes come across as patently inserted external footage. Meanwhile, pedantic attempts to convince audiences that bullfighting is a bloodthirsty sport worthy of condemning (&#8220;The wide world over, cruelty is disguised as sport to gratify man&#8217;s lust for excitement&#8221;) are insufficiently explored, and ultimately just feel hypocritical, given the clear valorization of Valentino&#8217;s character. <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=52449\">Remade by Rouben Mamoulian in 1941 with Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell, and Rita Hayworth<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Redeeming Qualities and Moments: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Some surprisingly candid pre-Code sensuality<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Blood-and-Sand-Bite.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Blood-and-Sand-Bite.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"352\" height=\"240\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Blood-and-Sand-Bite.png 352w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Blood-and-Sand-Bite-128x87.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Blood-and-Sand-Bite-300x204.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 352px) 100vw, 352px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Must See? <\/strong><br \/>\nNo, though it&#8217;s worth a look simply to see Valentino in one of his best-known roles.
