It&#8217;s perhaps best known for the infamous skinny-dipping scene, when Mills (actually, her body double) takes a lengthy swim in a pond while her friend (Bob Bollinger) stands nearby keeping watch &#8212; of the teacher (Durrell), who is a &#8220;liberated woman in the sense that she has chosen her job and living alone over marriage to the man she loves&#8221;, and is &#8220;a crusader, willing to put herself on the line for her cause&#8221; in which she&#8217;s shown actually traveling &#8220;around talking to the men and women of Thunderhead Mountain&#8221; in an attempt to explain that child marriages have &#8220;ruined the lives of the females&#8221;: <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Child-Bride-Durrell2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Child-Bride-Durrell2-1024x786.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"491\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-62867\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Child-Bride-Durrell2-1024x786.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Child-Bride-Durrell2-300x230.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Child-Bride-Durrell2-128x98.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Child-Bride-Durrell2-768x589.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Child-Bride-Durrell2-352x270.png 352w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Child-Bride-Durrell2.png 1221w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8212; she is largely absent, as the narrative shifts instead to the central plot involving wily Richmond&#8217;s manipulation into a marriage contract with young Mills.
