Princess Yang Kwei Fei &#8212; beautiful, selfless, noble, and &#8220;equally at ease in a palace or mingling with the common people&#8221; &mdash; is the epitome of womanhood in director Kenji Mizoguchi&#8217;s eyes, and is treated with sympathetic idealism.
