Things quickly turn sour, however, as Estelle reveals her desire to commit increasingly heinous crimes through their unconscious subject.  <\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p><strong>Genres, Themes, Actors, and Directors:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boris Karloff Films<\/li>\n<li>Elderly People<\/li>\n<li>Horror<\/li>\n<li>Mad Doctors and Scientists<\/li>\n<li>Michael Reeves Films<\/li>\n<li>Mind Control and Hypnosis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Response to Peary&#8217;s Review:<\/strong><br \/>\nKnown primarily as the second of three films helmed solely by prodigy director Michael Reeves (who died of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 25), <em>The Sorcerers<\/em> stands on its own as an intriguing black comedy with an unusual premise; indeed, as Peary writes, it&#8217;s Reeves&#8217; &#8220;oddest film and&#8230; just as bleak and fascinating as his other works.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Sorcerer-Lacey-Karloff.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Sorcerer-Lacey-Karloff-1024x566.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"354\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-66009\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Sorcerer-Lacey-Karloff-1024x566.png 1024w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Sorcerer-Lacey-Karloff-300x166.png 300w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Sorcerer-Lacey-Karloff-128x71.png 128w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Sorcerer-Lacey-Karloff-768x424.png 768w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Sorcerer-Lacey-Karloff-1536x849.png 1536w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Sorcerer-Lacey-Karloff-488x270.png 488w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Sorcerer-Lacey-Karloff-1038x576.png 1038w, https:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/05\/Sorcerer-Lacey-Karloff.png 1811w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While parts of the script are heavy-handed (for instance, Marcus and Estelle &#8220;remind&#8221; each other of their history with mind control while talking out loud &#8212; surely unnecessary for a couple living and working together for decades), I nonetheless got completely caught up in this story of &#8220;an elderly couple&#8217;s obsession for youth and excitement&#8221; and was reminded of <a href=\"http:\/\/filmfanatic.org\/?p=113\"><em>Homebodies<\/em> (1972)<\/a> &#8212; another sleeper film about elderly folks who discover their darker nature when push comes to shove.
